Kalambo Falls, Lake Tanganyika and Mwela Rock Art and Paintings

Period: April to November

This tour opens up our doors to the great Northern Tourism Circuit which is fast becoming one of Zambia’s greatest tourism destinations. This area spanning three (3) provinces of Zambia has one of the largest and oldest natural resources in the world. This particular leg is perhaps the most important of all since it takes us through the rich history of the Kalambo Falls and Archaeological Site in Mbala which are the second deepest in Africa and where fire was first discovered on the continent respectively.

We also have a look at Mwela Rock Art and Paintings in Kasama which has one of the largest stone age rock paintings and caves in the world.

The other dominant feature in these episodes is Lake Tanganyika which is the second oldest fresh water lake in the world, the second largest by volume and second deepest. It is also the world’s longest freshwater lake. Some of the greatest attractions of this lake on the Zambian side are the bay areas of Kasaba, Ndole and Nkamba.

A visit to this part of Zambia would be incomplete without learning about the legend of the Chishimba Falls Complex. Another must on this trip is a stopover at the Chambeshi River bridge to understand how in 1979 the first Road and Rail bridge were bombed by Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe’s) former colonial masters.

Time allowing a visit to Kasama Coffee, the biggest in Zambia would also be ideal.
